Tomorrow begins today. As the little girl grows into a woman and her anatomy changes, the desire for comfort and style are switched on. Then begins a lifelong journey for wearers of intimate wear. That is where the Laavian story begins… We are a brand focused on the Indian woman. Here we design intimate wear which deftly balances comfort, fit and style. We have an insightful understanding of the anatomy of Indian women – of all sizes and shapes. This inspires us to create products which blend empathy with innovativeness. What the woman wants Laavian gives. Discover us. The secret of feeling good inside awaits you at Laavian!
We at Laavian believe every woman is different. We view her as an individual from the perspective of design. Each of them coming with their own needs, desires and expectations from intimate wear. So our guiding principle has always been to each their own. When we started Laavian our goal was to literally customize the comfort, fit and styling over a large scale. Kind of ‘masstize’ the brand Laavian after gaining a thorough understanding of the culture and the anatomy of the wearer. Therein lies the genesis and continuing journey of Laavian.
Designers make Laavian
At the heart of Laavian is customer- focused design. Wedded to creativity and passion without relegating the primacy of comfort. Then follows the business and commercial journey. The company has been founded by a team that has has decades of experience in the intimate wear space. Headed by Santosh, our goal is to intimately dress up the Indian woman. Town or city, commoners or elite, for Team Laavian it is ensuring that every product we make matches the needs of a wide range of customers. On size, shape, color, style and price. In this continuing journey, for Santosh and the team a Bharat Darshan has been a strong input. Our design research has taken us across the country and resulted in a series of interactions with customers, trade and opinion makers. With a bank of insights and a strong understanding that a woman in Ludhiana is very different to the one in Bengaluru, at Laavian – all of us from designers to every employee we are forging ahead.
Do you know that a bra has 11 parts as compared to a shirt which has only 4? We engineer every part for comfort and quality. Our knowledge to handle every one of those 11 parts has been gained from decades of designing experience. We control the process every step of the way. From materials to procurement to the finish we have evolved standard setting methods and techniques. Suppliers, machinery and minds have been tactfully re-engineered to deliver happiness. Inner happiness…
Laavian – a new language
Most of the time, women seem to be wearing ill-fitting inner wear. There is enough published research and our individual experiences are also pointing in the same direction. Take bras for instance, there is one problem or the other . An ill-fitting bra pinches the skin, doesn’t hold the body together in comfort and daintiness. It seems to be singularly unsuccessful at concealing the nipples and doesn’t give the right lift. Needless to say, intimate wear seems to be out of sync. both on the basics and the differentiated level of various desires associated with intimate wear. At Laavian, we work on designing comfort and endowing intimate wear with an ability to tell and deliver an endearing inside story. Through all of this, our commitment to quality is enviable. It goes every step of the way – from design, machinery to the craftswoman – all have to speak one language. That of quality and Laavian.
Santosh is a designer at heart. His 20-year journey has been a creative and woman-focused enterprise. He has an abiding passion for creating intimate wear that breathes comfort and quality while keeping them fashionable and in step with the changing preferences. Between 2007 and 2013, Santosh successfully designed and manufactured women’s intimate wear for leading brands in India and overseas. His pursuit of delivering inner happiness led him to launch Pink Rose Lingerie – the brand house of Laavian.
Nothing can miss his eye
Santosh is a commercially successful designer involved from concept to production including, design, colourist, global trend analysis, component sourcing, pattern engineering and fit, grading, costings, brand development and team management. He tasked himself initially with creating a range aptly christened as ‘Outstanding Value.’ This sub range was designed to specifically deliver hitherto not experienced levels of comfort and support. Several unique features came from Laavian’s drawing board. Some of which were not there in the Indian market. To cite a few:
- Side super-shapers to provide the comfort of a wire free cup with all the lifting and shaping effects of an underwire
- Uniquely engineered apex concealer, providing freedom on any outerwear. Show nothing but your curves
- Full coverage bra with internalised covered seams to avoid irritation to sensitive breast tissue
- Wider under bust elastic for greater support around the diaphragm
- Wider strap width which provides support, without compromising the appearance of the garment.
The latest collection from Santosh and his designers is the Signature collection where florals and patterns have grown into statements of sophistication. The collection has indigenously designed three sections sewn together for a near invisible presence of the bra.
Facilities & Quality Control
‘Every unit check’ method
Quality control is a step-wise and carefully administered process. Here the Laavian production team is engaged in several of the key aspects. Laavian follows a strict ‘every unit check’ method. Apart from batch and random checks being done by Supervisors, there is a multi level check that every product has to go through before dispatch.
No uneven stitching & edges
Time and again to maintain the strictest quality standards we have had to re-engineer equipment. This we do indigenously and in most cases the machine and technique modifications are proprietary to Laavian. Here we have a Laavian employee sewing a bra on specialized production equipment to ensure the product has no uneven stitching and edges.
11 parts get checked
A bra comprises many different parts -11 to be exact. From the sourcing and finishing of each of the individual parts to perfection, each part is inspected for compliance, before they are integrated into the final finished product. 11 parts make a bra. More than 11 checks happen here.
Line model at work
Women make our work force. They are careful, dedicated and are patient with every process. The work floor is organized smartly with space for work, indigenous equipment and on a ‘Line’ model. This mode follows a sequential production program with ideal time being allocated to every step in the product manufacture.
Every month our designers evaluate a number of factors – emerging needs, expectations of comfort and style, popularity and our designers’ insights to give the today’s woman something innovative. From these have emerged our picks. Examine them and begin to feel good from inside. And you would be aware that Laavian is designed for Indian women – of all sizes and presentations…
